My main subject here was marine biology (marine sessile organisms on hard substrate). After my biology study I have worked as a researcher at the Centre of Computer and Mathematics in Amsterdam at the department of interactive systems on fractals (as a morphological model for biological objects) and visualization. I did my PhD in computer science and mathematics, both at the University of Amsterdam. The topic of my PhD thesis was Modelling growth forms of biological objects using fractals. I did my postdoc at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Calgary in Canada. During this period I continued my work on modelling growth and form of biological objects. Currently I am working at the Section Computational Science of the Faculty of Science in several computational life sciences related projects. My research interests are: morphogenesis, marine sessile organisms, evolutionary processes, modelling and simulation of genomic regulatory systems, modelling and simulation of growth and form, biomechanics. self-organisation in complex systems. Hobbies: biology, hiking, music (unfortunately only passive; one of the things which I regret is that I never have seen Maria Callas) reading, drawing and painting.
