mitochondria / heart cell

Frank gave biological info on muscle functioning and more specific on
the role of mitochondria in the cardiac muscle. Overview of the presentation
will be made available separately.

Preliminary research questions:

- "wet": is it possible to unbind mitochondria from myofibril and measure
whether that influences the waves? (will indicate whether alignment is
important)
- are there muscle deseases caused by detached mitochondria?
- modelling:
-- (analysis of) TCA-cycle model
-- (dynamic) internal membrane structure and the influence on diffusion

-- calcium waves, contraction

-- calcium wave speed vs. ROS wave speed
-- timescale: fast TCA-cycle vs. slow communication between mitochondria
   (not sure what I meant with this scribble :-))

Progress report / plans Hanna:

- past months: courses and reading on control and system theory and kynetics
- future plans 
-- biology: work on adding DNA+RNA to glycolysis model of Bas Teusink
      (together with Josine Jaan and Jildau Bouwer)
-- mathematics: system reduction for linear positive systems and
      later on for rational positive systems
   applications: glycolysis model, but open for all other suggestions
